The power of colour

The last post inspired me to continue with the theme “colour”. Here you can be delighted with some masterpieces whose colours are used in a brilliant way.
La Risata, by Umberto Boccioni

The most figurative element gives the title for this painting. The geometric forms are perfectly united in a colourful composition.
Self-Portrait with Seven Fingers, by Marc Chagall

Marc Chagall has a very unique pictorial style. The red in the background, at the same height with the depicted chagall’s eyes, gives the sensation of an angry character.
The Liver is the Cock’s Comb, by Arshile Gorky
Weeping Woman, by Pablo Picasso
Zebra, by Andy Warhol

The purpose of giving colours to something which in reality is monochromatic is as fantastic as the painting itself.
Seated Riffian, by Henri Matisse

There is a precise definition for the areas of each colour. The darker tones of green brings the character to the foreground. The strong red on the floor contrasts with the green and with the blue, and it’s essencial for the composition to work.
